Convert the academic-editing study's synthetic fixture into an eight-minute briefing for a fictional programme team. Eight minutes is this imagined talk's design brief, not a service turnaround promise.
The challenge
A memorable headline must not turn descriptive change into proven effectiveness. Slides, speaker notes and accessible text need to preserve the same denominator, scale and uncertainty.

01 / Establish the narrative spine
Question: what changed after the workshop? → Design: whose responses are compared? → Result: what do paired scores show? → Limit: what remains unexplained? → Decision: what evidence should a next evaluation collect? Keep the proposed next step distinct from the data that motivate it.
02 / Write an accurate headline
“Mean self-reported confidence rose among paired respondents; effectiveness is not established.” Subtitle: “Synthetic demonstration: 80 baseline respondents; 60 paired responses; no comparison group.” A small flow diagram retains 80 baseline → 60 paired + 20 without follow-up. These are the same invented counts used in the academic-editing example.
03 / Specify the result visual
Two labelled mean markers—3.1 before and 3.8 after—on a common 1–5 confidence scale. Annotation: +0.7 scale points; n = 60 paired respondents. These are aggregate means, not 60 individual trajectories. Do not add uncalculated error bars or crop the axis to exaggerate the difference. Keep Synthetic demonstration data inside the chart region.
04 / Give the speaker the qualification
Speaker-note excerpt: “The difference describes the same 60 respondents at two occasions. It is not a measure of research performance. Twenty baseline respondents lack follow-up, and there is no comparison group. A next-stage evaluation would need to address these limitations before making an effectiveness claim.” This is interpretation of a fictional fixture, not a report of a real workshop.
05 / Make the information available in text
Short description: “Synthetic workshop example: paired mean confidence scores before and after.” Adjacent long description: “Among 60 fictional paired respondents, the mean is 3.1 before and 3.8 after on a scale from 1 to 5, a difference of 0.7 points. Twenty of 80 baseline respondents have no follow-up. No comparison group is included.” Include an accessible data table as well as the visual.

One fixture, consistent across formats
The slide values reuse the manuscript example. Changing format does not change the analysed group, measured construct or limit of interpretation.
Visual emphasis serves the evidence
Emphasise the finding’s meaning, not an exaggerated effect. Keep the synthetic-data label within the chart and retain it in exported versions.
Access beyond the image
W3C guidance supports identifying a complex image briefly and providing a fuller text equivalent of its information. The HTML demonstration includes a text description and data table; reading order, contrast and the intended export format still require appropriate accessibility checks.

- No invented uncertainty interval or causal conclusion appears.
- Text equivalents preserve the chart's meaningful information; reading order and contrast require testing.
